Content created by Professor Deborah Lipstadt in conjunction with Maureen MacLaughlin and Dan Leshem. دعوی: انکارکنندگان هولوکاست می‏گویند که هیچ مدرکی دال بر چاله‏های سوزاندن اجساد در هوای آزاد در آشویتز- بیرکناو پیدا نشده است. کارلو ماتونیو (Carlo Mattogno)، انکارکننده ایتالیائی هولوکاست، محاسبات پیچیده‏ای را انجام داد تا "اثبات کند" کوره‏ها در آشویتز- بیرکناو به هیچ وجه قادر نبودند 1.1 میلیون جسد را بسوزانند. ولی کوشش ماتونيو و سایر انکارکنندگان بی‏نتیجه است، چون شواهد معتبری در دست است که نشان می‏دهد وقتی تعداد اجسادی که باید در کوره‏ها سوزانده می‏شدند از حد می‏گذشت آنها را در هوای آزاد می‏سوزاندند.

پاسخ: شواهد تاریخی نشان می‏دهد که وقتی کوره‏های موجود در آشویتز- بیرکناو نمی‏توانستند از پس حجم کار برآیند، روش سوزاندن اجساد در هوای آزاد به کار گرفته می‏شد. عکس‏های هوائی و زمینی عمل سوزاندن اجساد در هوای آزاد را نشان می‏دهند و شهادت شاهدان عینی صحت آنها را تأیید می‏کنند.
